Hike To Wallace Falls With Kids
As part of our new years resolutions we decided as a family to increase our hikes and adventure time in the beautiful pacific northwest where we currently reside. The scenery is amazing and we want to explore and absorb as much as possible. This weekend we trekked off to Wallace Falls.
It’s about an hour drive from Redmond Wa to Gold Bar. Which is an excellent amount of time to listen to an audio book. For the record, I would like to state that we did not actually find any gold bars, or gold for that matter, in Gold Bar. It’s just a name, a very pretty shiny name.
What we did find in ‘Gold Bar’ is a true gem of Washington Sate….Wallace Falls State Park. Oddly enough there is a super long train that was just chillin’ on the tracks. My children were every amused my this, we were off to a good start and we weren’t even out of the car yet! Note to self, must do more research on that train.
In true Redmond Kid fashion, we checked to see if there were any Geo caches at Wallace Falls State Park. And to our delight, there were 2! Here is a picture of the kids finding the treasure. What a fun thing to do. It’s kind of blurry because I don’t really want to give away the location of this cache. If you do go treasuring hunting as we call it, just remember to bring a small trinket or two to trade out when you find the location of the cache. Good luck!
The views are spectacular. The paths are safe enough for children (my crew is 4 year old and up).
But the drop from the trail would be terrifying. Maybe even deadly. As a Mom I totally bypass the ‘people going up on the right, people going down on the left’ generally used guidelines of hiking. I’m more of a ‘keep your self away from the edge, let the grown folks on the outer side of the trail kind of lady. It’s ok if you are too. Or if you are not that’s ok too… Just get out there and hike!Below is the view from the 2nd viewing area. This is concerned a ‘medium’ level path. And I gotta say, I am officially proud of my pack for making it this far. We were on a hunt for the next ‘treasure box’ (geo cache). But once we figured out that it was at the upper viewing deck which looked like a zig zag straight up, and was considered a ‘hard’ level hike, we decided to scrap that and turn around. However we will be back to try it again. Maybe in a 1 or 2 more years when the kids have a few more miles under their feet.
According to my band, we walked about 14,000 steps, went up 77 flights of stairs and walked about 4 miles. It was a good day. And you know it’s a good day, when your little one sees a spot to sit and this happens…
