2017 Year In Review
2017 was a year for ups, downs, laughs, cries and growth. We packed SO much into this year that it’s hard for me to unpack it in a complete thought, let alone a blog post. But I’m going to give it a go.
Do you ever have a year that just meshes together so cohesively, that by the end of it, it leaves you questioning what’s next. Seriously, like big world adult questions. Mysteries like what trials are next, where are we going to live, should I get a job or keep up this blogging stuff—-oh show me the way 2018. Show me the way.
But that’s looking into the future, and for this post at least I want to look into the past. I want to highlight our year, and move forward strongly into 2018. Let’s do this.
January– This month brought us both peace and sadness. We were coming off of a holiday spent alone without extended family for the very first time. Not seeing your parents and not hearing your children attack them with foam swords and pillows left our souls feeling a little alone that season. There is something about the sound. We rang in the year in our comfortable home, and swore that we would never do it like this again. Christmas isn’t a holiday—- it’s a feeling. Feel free to us that quote if you need it.
February- I spent many many months planning for this trip. Getting reservations in place, finding lodging & travel, scoring deals…the works! I wanted it to be memorable, I wanted my kids to have a blast, and I didn’t want to plan this trip again. lol We went to Disney World and Universal Studios in Florida! We invited my inlaws my to stay with us as a way to say THANK YOU for housing us before we moved to the PNW. Disney and Universal were amazing, we stayed at a Hilton Grand Vacation resort…and it was beautiful— from our huge kitchen to the huge jetted bath tub, to the views from the top floor balcony—not to mention the pool & waterfall— and the bar. 😉 It really did start out as a nice trip. But then my in laws became very ill and couldn’t leave their room, and great grandma landed herself in a Florida hospital and we found ourselves alone- again.
I don’t mean to sound rude when I say that or uncaring. But this is our 2017 Year in Review….so I might as well be honest and keep it from our prospective. It hurts when so much money, time, effort, planning goes into a 6 day stay with family you only see a handful of times a year— and 1/2 the days are jacked because of a virus….especially coming off of a holiday season spent alone. Truth, there is no way to plan away illness— but damn it, that’s just not what we wanted for this trip. We wanted memories, not barf bags.
The 5 of us finished off our Florida vacation with a visit to the hospital and spending time at Universal. Which- wholly crap— it’s awesome. If we ever go again, I’m spending waaay more time there. We got the kids wands and spent much of our time casting spells in Harry Potter Land. I don’t think that the correct name for it…but that’s what I’m calling it.
March- March in the PNW is beautiful. Everything starts to slowly wake up, the sunshine begins to linger and hints of color can be found everywhere. It’s lovely. My daughter turned the big 8 this month (and the idea of her being 9 is crazy to me……like nine is a BIG KID….but that’s 2018…let’s refocus on 2017). We had her birthday party at the local gymnastics place, ate cake and just really had a blast.
April- April is the big birthday month in this house. We celebrated two birthdays and topped this month off with a trip to the Oregon Coast. It was amazing. I honestly can’t wait to spend more time there. Family from Michigan flew in and we were able to spend a bit of quality time with every.
May- May was kind of a big month for me, personally, maybe kinda basic for everyone else. And that’s ok. This is the month that I really fell in love with the essential oils and started to take a more serious approach. I decided that I would continue my blog and incorporate oils into that my message. And here I am still pounding away at it.
June- School ended and my Mom came out to visit this month. At that point it had been about 7 months since we last saw her, and was WAY over do for a visit. The kids were SO excited for her to be here. I think Claire sat on her lap the entire time. <3 My youngest child graduated Kindergarten and I realized that next school year will be the last year they are all in the same building— ever. The kids, the grow so so so fast.
July- July was a pretty good month for us. It was pretty basic, full of camping, hikes, and of course my oldest’s birthday. We explored the Olympic mountain range for the first time— as always, it was magical.
It’s safe to say that the summer of 2017 was when L’s friendship really sparked with his close buddies. It’s really magical to see some little dudes get along so nicely and connect over Star Wars. This was indeed a good month for him. He did alot of maturing and just really is a sweet sweet human.
August- So many house guest Batman! My Mom & Dad came out for a visit. We explored alot of rivers and picked alot of berries. My Dad could swim in the pool ALL day with the kids. It’s fun to hear their laughs and giggles….so relaxing and fun.
September- Back to school, back to the grind, back to the blog, back to the oil hustle. September also brought about SOCCER. We had two littles playing and one Mama (me) coaching. This season was a blast, the kids progressed like crazy and both kids scored an in game goal— which was just awesome!
October- We had more chill time at home. My family took me out to see a Seattle Sounders game…which was amazing!
November- November just sort of blurs into December for me. We paid off some debt, ate turkey and started Brazilian Jujitsu.
December- December is such a fun festive and tiresome month, don’t ya think? There is just SO much going on. We did all the school band concerts, choir and singalongs, class parties, catching the FLU, Christmas Vacation Travel— you name it, we did it.
And to wrap it all to wrap it all up….we had a good year.
Thank you for being here and read/watching along with Redmond Kids!
Here we come 2018!!!!
